Torri Biddle, 19, was born without a right arm past her elbow, but despite the birth defect, she has never felt sorry for herself.
“I guess I didn’t realize I was different,” she says.
In the fall of 2013, Biddle’s friends began a social initiative on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #HandForTorri, hoping that awareness would help Biddle’s chances of finally getting a bionic arm.
The hashtag ended up catching the attention of The Buried Life, a group of four guys travelling around the world to complete a bucket list of 100 things they want to experience before they die, doing what they can to help strangers accomplish the same.
The campaign worked just as everyone had hoped, and Invisible Children and Hanger Clinics, a prosthetic provider, came together to provide a $150,000 bionic arm for Biddle.
“I was just so in shock,” Torri said. “I don’t know how to explain the emotions I felt.”
“This is what she’s always wanted her whole life,” Biddle’s dad, Joe, says in the video below.
A few great things will happen when you watch the video:
- You’ll see Biddle using her new arm for the first time
- You will see her finally being able to fully embrace her father
- And the biggie, Hanger Clinics has said that if the video reaches 1,000,000 views, they will donate another arm to a teen in need!
If my video gets 1 million views Hanger Clinic will donate another arm to someone in need! Do it, it’s for an amazing cause
